ABSTRACT
This was a descriptive research undertaken to study the levels of moral reasoning and moral attitudes of Buddhist University students and government university students and to make a comparative study of the levels of moral reasoning and moral attitudes of those university students. The samples of this study were 223 1st year students of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University who were selected by stratified random sampling and 226 students of government university students who were selected by cluster sampling. Research tools were the constructed test on moral reasoning and moral attitude scale. Percentage, mean ( ) and standard deviation were statistics used to analyze the data.
Research findings were as follows:
(1) Students of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, on the average, were found to be at the stage 5 of moral reasoning which is the social-contract-oriented and higher stage according to Kohlberg.
(2) Concerning moral attitudes, it was found the students of Mahachulalong kornrajavidayalaya University, on the average, were found to have moral attitudes in ‘moderate’ or ‘ undecided’ level ( =3.39)
(3) For students of government universities, it was found that they were at the stage 5 of moral reasoning like those of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University.
(4) The students of Government universities, on the average, were found to have moral attitudes in ‘moderate’ or undecided’ level ( =3.49) which was higher than the mean (3.39) of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University student.
